Coaching

Coaching is a future-oriented form of counselling. It allows you to focus on the steps required, why they are necessary, and how to get the desired changes and plan your ideal life. Coaching is goal-oriented and supports those wishing to make a career change, be promoted in their current work, rehash their current work into a shorter week for more life and health balancing or locate the type of work that makes the heart sing.

Coaching generally happens once every month with specific goal-oriented activities to be completed between appointments. Psychotherapy is usually scheduled weekly or fortnightly, with home-based mindfulness practice, diaries of feelings/experiences, and a more emotion-focussed practitioner support.

Coaching and psychotherapy sometimes overlap. An example may be when work dominates life for an extended period, ruining relationships and hobbies. In this case, coaching might shift into psychotherapy to deal with addictive or avoidant behaviour patterns.

In comparison, Psychotherapy focusses on the past and the present and why we behave as we do and how to create the Self we wish to be. Coaching often becomes the end stage of a series of psychotherapy sessions, making it so very important that your practitioner is trained in both.
Coaching, generally, does not retrieve emotional scars to process, however, should that occur, you will be supported through whatever processes are required to get you back on track towards your goals.
